Employee Spotlight — Ariane Tennant, associate vice-president, Human Resources
Where are you from?
I was born and raised outside of Montreal and spent lots of time when I was growing up in upstate New York. I wanted to travel Canada to experience the diversity of people, languages, cultures and landscapes. I have been fortunate to have had the opportunity to also live in Quebec City, Vancouver, Calgary/Cochrane and now Lethbridge. For me, all these places are where I’m from.
How long have you been at the U of L and what do you do here?
I’ve been at the U of L since November, 2018 and I am the associate vice-president of human resources. My role is to provide leadership to human resources management for all of our employees including recruitment, employee and labour relations, benefits, pensions, compensation, payroll, talent development and health and wellness.
What’s the best part of your job?
Human resources is intricate and complex and I enjoy the joys and challenges it brings, especially stewarding U of L values and culture. I am so appreciative of the team in the human resources department — a hard-working, caring and devoted 20-member team.
What’s one thing most people don’t know about you?
I named my younger dog “Sierra” in honour of the mountains of Canmore, where I adopted her from the SPCA. I named my older dog “Daisy” after my favourite flower because I thought she was so beautiful when I adopted her from the Calgary Humane Society.
